Project summary

The project considers the creation of standard oasis modules with dimensions of 1000 m ² and more. The main objective of the Project is to utilize oil-contaminated soils and transform them into fertile soil on which endemic plants reproduce.

   Placing Oasis modules throughout the country will not only help to utilize oil sludge deposits, but will also give undeveloped territories a special flavor.

Problems associated with the disposal of oil sludge in Saudi Arabia are present in the country after the revitalization of the oil industry.

So, on behalf of the Government of Saudi Arabia in 2010, Japanese companies carried out a systematic analysis in this matter:

The objective of this Project is the creation of a closed territory of an artificial Oasis with the involvement of biological objects of the soil of the root system of the Oasis plants in the process of biological decomposition of oil sludge. Moreover, in the process of such decomposition, these sludge will turn into fertile soil in 5 - 7 years.

Soil microorganisms that saturate the matrix soil will activate the processes of oil sludge immobilization by mixing oil sludge in the soil of the artificial Oasis structure.

Saudi Arabia, being one of the largest oil exporters in the world, exports a significant portion of its crude oil through the port of Yanbu.

... Here, crude oil spills not only affect the environment, but also pose a serious threat to human health.

It is known that under the influence of biochemical reactions, which are promoted by the vital activity of microorganisms and other protozoa, in the massifs of a mixture of soil and oil sludge, such sludge undergoes biological decomposition in the mass.

It is also known that in the process of biological decomposition, the oxidative destruction of organic substances in oil sludge into fertile humus occurs.

Directly Project " OASIS ARAMCO " can be represented by the following concept, which consists of several main points:

1. Creation in the territories close to the places of liquidation of oil and sludge lakes (and similar soil contamination) of artificial structures with a soil composition laid in them, including collected oil sludge waste.

2. Soil composition is a composition in which, after treatment by mixing together with a special prepared soil matrix, oil sludge will also be placed.

3. The upper layers of the soil in the structure consist of a fertile soil mixture, specially selected taking into account the plants that will be planted.

4. The facilities will be equipped with devices for automatic collection of water captured from the air (approximately 35 grams per cubic meter of air) and thermoregulation systems.

5. The structures will be supplied with alternative energy sources.

The author considers the development of the Project in the direction of construction of artificial pastures, both in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and in other countries.
